PLANETARY GOVERNMENT Part 2 ~THE URMIA CONFERENCES~
6. Law, Liberty, and Sovereignty
(1490.4) 134:6.1 The man who craves liberty, complete freedom, should remember that all other men also crave it.
Groups of freedom-loving mortals cannot live together in peace unless the members submit to laws, rules, and regulations which will secure the same degree of liberty for each of them while safeguarding an equal degree of liberty for all their fellows.
If one man is absolutely free, then another must be an absolute slave.
The relative nature of freedom is true, socially, economically and politically.
Liberty is the gift of civilization, made possible by the force of LAW.
(1490.5) 134:6.2 Religion makes possible the spiritual realization of the brotherhood of man, but human government is needed to regulate the social, economic, and political problems connected with that goal of human happiness and efficiency.
(1490.6) 134:6.3 There will be wars and rumors of wars - nations will rise up against one another - so long as the political sovereignty of the world is divided, and unjustly held, between the hands of a group of nation states.
England, Scotland, and Wales did not end their warfare with each other until they ceded their respective sovereignty to the United Kingdom.
(134:6.4 Another world war will teach the so-called sovereign nations to form a federation of some kind, thus creating the conditions necessary to prevent the lesser wars, the wars between the smaller nations.
But world wars will continue until the government of mankind is created.
World sovereignty is the only solution to prevent world wars-there is no other way out.
(134:6.5 The forty-eight free American states live side by side in peace.
Among the citizens of these forty-eight states are to be found all the various nationalities and races living in the constantly contending European countries.
Among the Americans are to be found almost all the religions, religious sects and cults of the whole world, and yet here in America they live together in peace.
This is simply because these forty-eight states have surrendered their sovereignty, abandoning all fallacious notions of the so-called right of self-determination.
(1490.9) 134:6.6 It is not a question of armaments or disarmament.
Nor does the problem of the maintenance of world peace come under the influence of factors pertaining to compulsory or voluntary military service.
If you take away from the mighty nations all modern mechanical weapons and all types of explosives, they will fight with fists, stones, and sticks, so long as they persist in the illusion of their divine right to national sovereignty.
(134:6.7 War is not the great and terrible disease of man; war is a symptom, a result.
The real disease is the virus of national sovereignty.
(134:6.8 The nations of earth have not possessed true sovereignty; they have never had a sovereignty to protect them from the ravages and devastations of world wars.
In creating a world government of mankind, the various nations do not give up their sovereignty as such, but actually create a true and permanent world sovereignty, which will henceforth be able to protect them from all wars.
Local affairs will be handled by local governments; national affairs by national governments; international affairs will be administered by the world government.
(134:6.9 World peace cannot be maintained by treaties, diplomacy, foreign policy, alliances, balancing of powers, or other palliative measures based on the sovereignties of nationalism.
A world law must be created and enforced by a world government-the sovereignty of all mankind.
(1491.4) 134:6.10 With world government, the individual will enjoy far greater liberty.
Today the citizens of the great powers are taxed, regulated, and controlled almost oppressively, and much of this current interference with individual liberty will vanish when national governments are willing to place their sovereignty, so far as international affairs are concerned, in the hands of the world government.
(134:6.11 Under world government the various national groups will have a genuine opportunity to realize and enjoy the personal liberty inherent in true democracy.
The fallacious notion of self-determination will be ended.
With worldwide control of money and trade, the new era of world peace will arrive.
Soon thereafter a world language will possibly emerge, and there will be at least the hope that there will sometime be a world religion-or religions with a world outlook.
(1491.6) 134:6.12 Collective security can never guarantee peace until collectivity includes all mankind.
(1491.7) 134:6.13 The political sovereignty of a representative government of mankind will bring lasting peace on earth, and the spiritual brotherhood of men will forever insure good will among them all.
There is no other way to achieve peace on earth and goodwill among men.
